It makes sense dues to the fact that I'm a Giants fan, I hate the Patriots and the last time I was at the SuperBowl was when they played each other in Phoenix and the Giants won. I was also spinning out there that week in Phoenix. I can't make it to Indy this year for the week and the game so this is the next best thing. Something About DJ's

One of my fellow DJ's sent to me via BBM today. It's so true so I decided to pass along the message.

If you ask yourself why DJ's charge so much for performances, here's the reason(s).

DJ's don't get paid vacation, they don't get paid sick days, they don't get bonuses for outstanding performances nor for Christmas.

DJ's don't have insurance plans nor do we qualify for unemployment. DJ's sacrifice their family on special days so that they can bring happiness to others. Illness or personal affairs are not excuses for a bad performance.

Next time you ask, remember that DJ's are DJ's because of the love of music, but that love doesn't pay debts.

My Thoughts On Relationships

I can tell you from experience that it is the absolute worst feeling in the world to invest genuine love, time & energy into someone just for them to turn around and betray you. I've had the dubious honor of that happening to me twice.

Each time, the emotions of anger, sadness and disbelief have shaken me to the core. Each time, I say to myself "why bother? Life is better and easier without someone". The truth of the matter is, everyone needs someone. You need someone to help you turn the bad times into good times. You also want someone there to turn the good times into great times. You just can't do it alone. I've tried that too. It doesn't work.

There's always lessons to be learned by each relationship and by each person.

All of them serve a purpose. The goal is to recognize your failures, make adjustments in your life to do better and still keep your good qualities in tact. In addition, you have to find a constructive way to get rid of the anger and bitterness of the past. The future doesn't require those traits.

I can safely say that I've become a better person over the years. I've also become very choosy over who I spend my time with. After all, I'm still DJ Commish and that dude's schedule has a whole different set of demands. I may eventually run into someone who is worth my time and energy. The point of the matter is, if you're in a similar situation, make adjustments. Find out where u went wrong and change it. By doing so, you'll know what to expect and what not to except from the future.

I got a text message from a good friend recently saying that she saw me on a website "laughing mad hard...all the way to the bank." I had no idea what she was talking about. She sent me the link to the website and I laughed when I saw these pictures.

I was the DJ for the official NYC screening party for BET Networks newest original sitcom series called "Reed Between The Lines". The show stars Malcolm Jamal Warner (The Cosby Show) & Tracey Ellis Ross (Girlfriends). I had a blast doing this event and the show itself is pretty good. If you get a chance, check it out. It currently airs on Tuesdays at 10pm on BET. I have a feeling that this show will be around for a while.

This week has been a tough one if you're like me, a Blackberry user. RIM has experienced technical issues worldwide for the past 3 days resulting in service disruptions. The following is the rant that I posted earlier today.

RIM has GOT to be the greatest example of corporate laziness!

How can u constantly have world-wide service outages? In

addition, the products are outdated and the company is

CLEARY surviving on BBM.

They were once dominate by being innovative. HOW can you sit

back and let Google, Apple, Samsung AND HTC run past you

w/o doing something about it??? How can you sit back and

watch you customers leave for the competitors in droves to the

point where your losing billions?

Corporate laziness is far worse than people who rely on Public

Assistance by choice!

Sooooo, the world lost a great mind, a visionary, an icon, a genius, an American hero and to anyone who owns an Apple product, a family member.

I just wanted to take this time to let you know how Steve Jobs had an impact on my life. I tweeted this yesterday (@djcommish) and mentioned it on Facebook today (facebook.com/djcommish). If it wasn't for Steve and his vision (along with the great people at Rane), DJ Commish would be out of business. I would be working some 9-5 job that I don't like or probably be unemployed dude to the awful U.S. economy.

Before I purchased my 1st Apple Computer in late 2005, I was carrying 8 crates of records as well as DJ bags to the club every night. No one wanted to book me outside of NYC b/c 8 boxes of records was like paying for 2 people to fly (in addition to myself). No, Steve Jobs didn't create Serato Scratch Live. Rane did that. However, it was Steve's Apple Computer that was strong enough to support the PC created Scratch Live program with very little issues and glitches.

By early 2006, I was on the road to different cities and it expanded my business. The same computer that Steve created is the reason why I'm on Music Choice daily (MC Mix-Tape Channel), have plenty of mix-tapes (including the latest one I posted yesterday) and have shows on internet radio.

People can say that some of his creations killed jobs (the music industry & film industry). Yes, it definitely changed things as they were. However, my rebuttal is that his creations challenged you to think outside the box. There is no longer room for people to not be creative. In my opinion, that is a great thing.

I remember when I couldn't get a job in corporate America when I graduated from St. John's University. I also remember being a DJ to survive. When I got my 2nd Apple Computer, my mindset changed from trying to survive to being creative.

Steve Jobs did what he wanted to do...change the world. Although he left the world too soon, his legacy will remain for a long, long time. If you every owned and Apple product (computer, laptop, ipod, iphone, ipad, etc.) or ever watched a Pixar movie, I'm 100% SURE that u can agree with me when I say "Thank You Steve!"

I got an e-mail from a friend today. He was letting out some frustration. He just got word that his sister passed away. We all have shock, sadness and pain when a family member, friend or loved one is taken away from us. However, this situation was a little more hurtful.

He found out that his sister died of breast cancer. She knew about it but never told him. In addition, there was a selected few family members that knew about it but never told him either.

My question to you is "Do you think that's right?"

I'm sure you've dealt with this in your family. Whether you're a victim or suspect, I challenge you to think! If you have an life threatening illness, how are you helping by keeping your family and loved ones in the dark?

Release The Tension

How do u release the tension?

Life is full of ups and downs. I guess it just wouldn't be the same without adversity. Although no one really wants problems in their life, it always shows up. How do you deal with them?

Some people pray while others go to the gym. Some people hit the bar while others sleep it off. Personally, I use spinning as a stress reliever. When I'm not spinning, you might find me at Whole Foods (I just love that place).

Either way, everyone should have way to release tension (as long it's legal and doesn't hurt anyone). I didn't find a way until recent years. It's probably the reason why I didn't enjoy life as much when I first started spinning.

I just wanted to share my thoughts while I'm on re-routed journey to Atlantic City, NJ for a wedding. Feel free to share your thoughts by sending a comment below.

Failure

I had an interesting conversation with my ex-girlfriend yesterday about failure. I have no clue how this conversation was received but I thought it was cool to talk briefly about failure.

The average person looks at failure as a bad thing. No one wants to fail. No one wants to lose. Losing is never fun. However, it's a part of life. I know for sure, I failed at many different things in life and hated it every time. The reason why is because I didn't recognize the good in some of my failures.

Hopefully, when you fail at something (business, personal, etc.) it should be a life lesson. You know what works for you and what doesn't work. You can make the necessary adjustments and try again to have better results. My whole career as a deejay is built on trying different things. I've won on some occasions and I've failed on others. I've worked with some great people and I've worked with some bad people. Each time I failed, I learned valuable lessons and implemented them in my business and my journey of life. It's funny because all of the books I read about business have one thing in common. They say it's okay to fail. With your new found knowledge, it is up to you to turn loses to victories!

LIVE FROM THE CLUB

Soooo, last Saturday night, I was doing a guest DJ spot at Katra Lounge in NYC. A partygoer was in town from Washington, DC. He came to the DJ booth as asked if I can record the party and e-mail it to him. I thought it was a lil strange to ask but I realized that I was spinning with the Rane TTM57 mixer (Serato mixer). I said "Yep", pressed record and here we are! I hope you like it.

ANGRY DJ???

People use to call me The Angry DJ.

Why??? Because I was angry all the time. I was angry about my life and everything in it.

I'm in a different place in my life these days. With that being said, I can ask myself "Why?"

I hear some DJ's complain about their status and how they don't get the respect that they deserve. In all honesty, not too many people get that...in any capacity.  It doesn't matter what you do for a living.

For the fans of a DJ, we make the party rock. We play that record on the radio, television, in the club, etc. at the right time. It can be 1st thing in the morning, during the work day to get u through the day or when u're at home reflecting on the day. We can change your mood.

For the artist, DJ's are the go to people. When that artist is just starting out, it takes a few DJ's to believe in their music to want to play it to the masses. When, they are signed, it's the DJ's that breaks their records, introduce them to the world and sometimes interview them. The DJ's are always pushing the artist to new heights.

The DJ's make promoters famous and club owners rich. There's no other way to put it.

Are we always paid like we should be paid? Are we always credited with making people rich & famous? Are we always acknowledged for your work? Of course not!

Should I be angry???

Why should I be angry???

Yes, I've changed people's lives. Yes, people have made a lot of money due to my efforts. Yes, people's lives are better. No, I'm not in the penthouse in midtown Manhattan or in that Mansion in the Hollywood Hills.

Does it matter? Should I be the Angry DJ???

For what???

I play music for a living! How great is it that I can do what I like for a living? Some of my friends want to see me win JUST so they can live vicariously through me (that's another story). At the end of the day, all of these people (including you), have benefited from my efforts. You've been to my parties, listened to my radio shows, watched me on TV, downloaded my mix-tapes, hired me to spin at your events and so much more!

If a DJ ever feels "used", then it's WORKING! A relevant DJ gets "used", plain and simple! A relevant person gets used! One of my favorite quotes in life is from a friend (who happens to be a promoter). The quote is: "If you're not useful, you're useless!" This goes for anyone and everyone! It doesn't matter what you do for a living.

The bottom line is, everyone wants to have a purpose in life.

DJ Commish Bowling Night

Soooo, after hiatus of about a year, I decided to bring back the DJ Commish Bowling Night in a bigger and better way. I had no idea that it was going to be received in the way that it was.

I originally started the DJ Commish Bowling Night for my b-day over 2 years ago. We did the bowling night for over a year but I stopped it b/c I felt there was little to no interest in it anymore. I think I was right to a certain degree. Sometimes, you miss something when it's gone.

The calls for bring it back really start about 6 months ago. I was reluctant to do the event because I was still a little upset that I felt I had to stop the event in the first place. However, when my homie Drew passed away suddenly in April, it was kinda of a wake-up call. Drew was apart of the original crew who came to bowling night every month. He made friends with everyone but just like me, he was everywhere so u may go a few months without seeing him. Time is precious.

I originally started the DJ Commish Bowling Night to bring friends together and to connect my world of people to make new friends. I guess in my mind, I didn't stick to that plan and cancelled the event. Drew's passing was a prime example of how well my original idea worked. There was a whole crew of us at his wake who didn't know his family, girlfriend, etc. but we knew him...just from bowling.

So, in the spirit of Andrew "Drew" Donaldson and to answer the calls of the people who wanted it to make a comeback, the DJ Commish Bowling Night returned yesterday. New memories were made as well as new connections. At the end of it all, isn't that what living life is all about?

I WAS GONNA BOWL A STRIKE UNTIL I SLIPPED & FELL IN THE LANE! GUTTERBALL!

Thanks to all of the people who came out to the DJ Commish Bowling Night! This is a monthly event (NOT A WEEKLY) so the next one will be announced very soon.

A DAY IN THE PARK...

Yesterday, I met up with some friends in the NYC. We're all in the music biz in one way or another so we was just catching up. We stared talking about the business and about life. As we took a walk info Central Park, I realized how much of a typical New Yorker I really am.

Everyday, I travel past Central Park and other unique landmarks that make New York City what it is. I never really pay attention to it because it's always there. Yesterday, I had the time to really sit back and chill for a few hours. I realized that whoever created the idea of having a large park in the middle of a metropolis such as New York City was either a genius or really on some sort of narcotic. Either way, it looks great and can be a peaceful getaway in the city.

One of the many lessons I learned yesterday is that sometimes, it's good to slow down for a minute and chill. You can miss a lot of good stuff if you're always running.

Recently, I check out my stats of my blog page. I see that I have readers from several countries such as Canada, Thailand, Russia, Australia, China, Spain, Chile, India, Poland, Sweden, Brazil, France and the UK.

Although this is great and I appreciate all of my readers, I was thinking to myself that I never been to most of these countries. In addition, I don't speak the native language in some of these countries. So that makes me think "Why me?"

Why are you reading? Why do you continue to come back and check on me and what I have to say?

Is it because I'm a DJ? Is it because there's some of the people that I've interviewed on my radio shows in the past? Is it some of the information I post about my events? The reviews on music? Is it some of the random stories about some of the wild things I've seen in my life? Do you want to get to know exactly who is DJ Commish?

This is a great mystery to me and I would love to know but I do realize that I must be doing something right in order to keep you entertained enough to return periodically. In the meantime, I will do a better job of posting new and fresh information for you. Some of the postings may seem random but then again, my life is random at times.

Every year, SummerStage, a sprawling festival set in New York City’s idyllic park spaces, pays tribute to hip-hop new and old with a series of free and ticketed shows. 2011 is no different as the lineup features a Central Park headlining performance by Nas and Damian Marley on August 11 and a subsequent roster as vast as the cityscape itself.

Other performers this summer include: Wiz Khalifa, Rakim, EPMD, Talib Kweli, Slick Rick, The Sugarhill Gang, Kool Moe Dee, Rob Base, Special Ed, Nice and Smooth, The Cold Crush Brothers, and a series of Funkmaster Flex-led shows that promise many special guests.

Locations span hot spots in each borough, including Betsey Head, Von King and Red Hook Park in Brooklyn, St. Mary’s, Crotona and Soundview Park in the Bronx, Queensbridge Park in Queens, Tappen Park in Staten Island, and East River, Marcus Garvey and Central Park in Manhattan. My Thoughts & Ideas

I must say that I move around a lot. I'm always on the go. For people who know me well, they know that they'll see me every once in a while (this includes women I've dated over the years). With that being said, I always have something going on.

However, I will admit that I sometimes have too much goin on in my mind. It's tough for me to focus on one thing at a time. I'm not quite sure how to deal with this problem either. I try to write stuff down. I usually walk around with a book of my random thoughts and idea. I also use the "notes" section in my phone. The only problem is I tend to forget where I place these notes and don't check them until weeks later.

I'm really trying to do better with my random thoughts and ideas. I just have to find a better system. I feel that if I can find a better way of organizing my thoughts and ideas, I could probably change the world as we know it.

I'm almost certain that there's many people who have this same problem. Maybe you have this problem too. If you do, my question to you is what are you doing about it? I'd like to know.

Big Pun Place...Help Make It A Reality In The Bronx

I was listening to Urban Latino Radio yesterday. In case you don't know, I have a show on there every Monday-Thursday from 4-6pm EST. You should log on. Anyway, I was checking out my friends at Front Stage Radio (Mon.-Thurs. 10pm-1am) and they had a special guest. The guest was Big Pun's sister Ms. Nicole Rodriguez.

They was talking about her brother, the late, great Big Pun, Terror Squad and more. Pun's family is apart of a movement to get 163rd Street & Rogers Avenue renamed to Big Pun Place. As a fan of Hip-Hop, Big Pun and a Bronx, NY resident, I feel that this is only right. There's already a huge mural there of Big Pun that has been there for over 10 years. He use to hang out over there when he was alive. It's only right.

My life is so random sometimes. I get an invite from a good friend about a B-day Bash for a couple of friends and clients. I was off from spinning at the clubs so 'why not'?

I decided to make a quick stop for some Thai food b/c I was starving and it was around the corner from the party. As my plate arrives, my friends come walking down the street and join me for dinner (completely unscripted and random). I knew good times was ahead of me.

We get to the club and there's an open bar on Belvedere, Def Jam karaoke video games at the outdoor deck in the back, my b-day people and countless others are there.

By 8:30pm, people are drunk and getting it in on the dancefloor. I didn't even realize that it was also the B-day Bash of the Legendary DJ/Producer Marley Marl. Once he gets on the 1's & 2's, the party shifts into another gear.

It became a Legends show for a second b/c Marley decides to bring Lords Of The Underground to perform! And for me hip-hop heads, YES, "Chief Rocka" AND "Funky Child". As I'm typing, I hear "The year is 1971!" in my head. But I was a lil upset about the music. I didn't hear ANY old school R&B, Funk, OR LL Cool J's "Boomin' System". I'd figured that it's Marley's B-day and her produced the record so it was coming soon. Oddly enough, I hear Rick Ross "Blowing Money Fast" and Wacka Flocka's "Hard In The Paint" twice each...

As soon as I really notice what's missing, Q-Tip decides he wants to get on the set and spin. He sends the night into overdrive by going to the classics. There's something about old school music that will make people lose it. The party looked like the painting from the classic TV show "Good Times". Even I was caught dancing and yes, word spread on Twitter quickly. I'm just glad there's no pictures out there...

As great as the party was, I'm still annoyed that EVERY DJ that played forgot to spin LL CooL J's "Booming System" HOW do u forget that record??? I will give props to Q-Tip tho...He played the Marley Marl remix of LL Cool J's "Jinglin Baby".

Well, the pic unfortunately doesn't tell the whole story. It also doesn't doesn't show the EMPTY bottle of nutcracker at her feet. For those of you that don't know what Nutcracker is, it's a drink that was created in Harlem (drink of choice at summer cookouts) at is a concoction of different liquors and fruit just (a.k.a. LIQUID CRACK!).

This is the result of a night of partying and drinking nutcrackers. She dropped her bag (as u can see) and her Ipod. This poor soul was snoring loud on a packed subway train and was OUT COLD!!! We tried to wake her up several times...even banging on the wall to wake her. Finally, we gave up and got a cop to get her off the train. If we was foul, she would've left the train with considerably less money that she did.

Lesson: Leave that crack ALONE!!!

At first, I thought it was a drunken for this guy. I might be right BUT I had to look again. Then, I thought to myself "Drunk or not, what's WRONG with this picture?"

Saturday Night Live: The REAL Comedy

Yesterday, I had an early event to do (shout out to the NABFE organization). I was done spinning at 10pm. A good friend came to the early event so we decided to hang out in the city. I'm rarely off on a Saturday night so I figured it's a good time to see what NYC has to offer. After making a stop to see some friends, we head over to Butter NYC. I wanted to hear some mainstream and house music while visiting some friends who promote the party. Straight comedy!!! 5 minutes at I sit at the table (w/ 6 other people), a bottle of vodka arrives. 20 minutes later (after trying to stash the bottle for a few minutes), the bottle was done!!! NO!!! I didn't have a drink at all...

A 2nd bottle arrives at the table next to us (which was apart of our group)...10 minutes later, THAT bottle was gone too!!! Talk about thirsty people!!! The tallest girl at the 2nd table proceeds to dance on the couch in front of the table, and somehow loses her balance...

The whole crew suddenly disappeared.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get a good picture of her...

So my friend and said "Party DONE" and decided to go and get some food.

After grabbing some food, we was going to check out another spot in the city, but the real action was outside the club. Two NYC cops are struggling with a drunk guy outside the club. They grabbed this dude and tried to handcuff him but the drunk guy was no pushover. A full blown fight pops off in the street. It seemed like a small arena formed in the street...People everywhere!!! The drunk guy is ROCKING the cops in the street. He had the upper hand until one of the cops pulls out the stun gun...

GAME OVER!!!

Then about 5 cars show up...cops everywhere...late as usual.

FAIL!!!

Time to go home after that...

A Tuesday In NYC

After spinning my afternoon radio show on www.urbanlatinoradio.com (4-6pm EST), I went to the studio w/ DJ Prince to work on another mix-tape (which will be out very, very soon). We did the recording and it was time for me to go home. I was tired but I remembered that my homie Splif sent me an e-mail earlier to tell that he put me on the list for an event. It was special performance by Lyfe Jennings. He has a new album coming out on August 31st. So I figured I would stop by for a sec.

I get to Canal Room and it's a full blown party. D-Nice and Chuck Barrett are spinning, the "industry" people are there as well as the NYC Socialites. I saw some people that I haven't seen in a minute. Some people were happy to see me and that I'm doing well while others gave "industry" greeting. Lyfe was in VIP getting his drink on so I didn't think he was going to perform but he actually did. I must say, he sounds like his records. I can't say that about most of the artist out here these days. I will check out his album when it drops. S.O. to Los and the Warner Bros. staff...

What Am I Listening To: Timbaland's Shock Value II

I got an Twitter message from a good friend telling me to check this album out. Even though I'm a DJ, there's way too much music out there to hear all the albums that come out on a weekly basis. However, when this person tells me that I need to listen to something, I find the time to do it.

So at 7am, after a night of work and no sleep, I decided to listen to Timbaland Presents: Shock Value II. I'm a fan of the first Shock Value album. This one is basically a continuation of the 1st album. Timbaland continue to make me believe that he is the most influential producer of my generation (more so than Dr. Dre and The Neptunes). The only way you're going to like or even appreciate this album is if you are a true music fan. If you're strictly a hip-hop fan, you're not gonna get it. The same goes for if you're strictly a fan of house music or pop music.

Timbaland continues to step outside the box and make and new sound that is an infusion of different genres of music. By doing this, Timbo still keeps his signature futuristic sound. Let's put it like this, I just don't get the whole Miley Cyrus craze...AT ALL. I'm a lil too old for that, I guess. However, Timbaland has a track with her called "We Belong To Music" that's gonna be a problem. I guarantee that this track will take Miley Cyrus to new heights.

Shock Value II is a 17 track musical journey that will take you through the world of hip-hop, pop, rock, electro-house and all points in between. It also has a list of features that read like a who's who in the music world such as Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado, Katy Perry, Jay-Z, Drake, Keri Hilson, Daughtry, One Rebuplic, Esthero, The Fray and more. In my opinion, you'll be hearing a lot from this album throughout 2010. Timbaland has music that can be heard on every radio station. I know for sure you will hear at least half of the album in the clubs. I definitely recommend that you buy a copy.

As we make our rounds throughout the city, we stop at a book release party for Kevin Powell's new book "Open Letters To America".

I got the chance to meet Kevin Powell at this event. I remember reading his article in Vibe Magazine when I was in H.S. about Death Row Records. My favorite part of it was when he almost stepping on the Death Row logo that was on the carpet in Suge Knight's office. The Pitbulls in the room almost killed him. I thought that was hilarious. But anyway, Kevin seemed like a cool dude. Standing right next to him was my homie Sway. I haven't seen him in a year. I didn't know he cut his famous dreads...

It's always nice to catch up with good people. It's much, much better than hanging out with bad apples. There's a few of those in NYC...smh.

I love being a DJ. Music is life to me. However, I always enjoy good food. I recently got a message on Facebook asking me to spin a charity event benefitting The Food Bank Of New York City. I figured this is a great way to give back to the people of my city during the holiday season.

If you're in NYC on Sunday Nov. 22nd, come out to support Comfort Zone Cooking Events. There will be great pastries to try, plenty of drinks and dope music featuring DJ E Class, my homie DJ Hard Hittin Harry and yours truly. Friday afternoon, I get a text from a long time friend asking me if I want to go to see Ludacris & Estelle perform later in the evening. I was thinking...why not? I was suppose to be in Atlanta but I'm still in NYC. Let's have some fun. She puts me on the list but says she can't make it. I'm taking her place...cool.

Doors are suppose to open at 9pm. I get there at 8:15pm and see this...

To me, this is not cool. I hate waiting on lines especially when it's cold outside and the Yankees are playing in the Playoffs...Nevertheless, I get on the line and wait...and wait...and wait...

When I get to this point...people start coming from nowhere and start cutting the line...So I'm furious now and I'm trying to figure out what I got myself into. I finally make it to the front of the line after over 90 minutes...(YES, 90 MINUTES) of waiting on line. When I get there, I find out that this is an invite only event and most people was sent away because they weren't on "the list".

My name gets checked off...the lady give me a green wristband and tells me to "Enjoy The Show".

OK...

I walk in and up the steps and see this...

It's the 2009 Heineken Red Start Soul Concert. It featured Ludacris, Estelle, Biz Markie, D-Nice & Wale. The event was hosted by comedian Godfrey

This place was packed with industry tastemakers and fans. It must have been over 1,000 people in this spot. I said wassup to a few people, got my free Heineken Light (Heineken Open Bar by the way) and immediately walked up to the stage. I missed the performance of Wale and D-Nice. I got there just in time for Biz Markie. He started out by spinning classic records to get the crowd hype. Then, he grabs the mic and performs "Just A Friend".

After his performance, Biz gets back on the turntables and starts playing. It's a full blown party at this time. Godfrey comes out and introduces Estelle.

I knew Estelle had a good stage show but she's pretty funny too. She had a lot of jokes to tell. Her show is also interactive. She pulled 3 people from the crowd to dance with her and her backup singers on stage.

After Estelle's amazing show, Godfrey returns to the stage. Apparently he told a joke that some dude in the crowd didn't like. This dude comes from the back of the room to the front of the stage to challenge Godfrey to "step outside"...

Only in NYC...

Now, it's time for the headliner for the evening...LUDA!!!

Ludacris did not disappoint the crowd...Performing hits like "Southern Hospitality", "Ho", "What's Your Fantasy", "One More Drink" & "Move Bitch", Ludacris kept the crowd rocking for over 45 minutes. But during the middle of the performance, Luda had a surprise for the NYC crowd. He starts to perform his record called "I Do It For Hip-Hop" and all of the sudden out comes....

NAS!!!

So I get a phone call on Tuesday afternoon from "The Rock". No. Not the wrestler turned actor, but my long time friend from college. I missed his birthday at the beginning of the month due to my schedule. He asked me to help him out with a marketing project that he's working on in Philly on Wednesday. Without looking at my schedule, I agreed to help him. It wasn't the smartest thing to do but when friends need help, I try to be there.

I'm on a "Megabus" to Philly bright and early on Wednesday morning. All I know is that this project is for CNN. When I arrive at 30th Street Station in Philly, things get interesting. I'm standing on the corner talking with The Rock and Jav and I hear a loud CRACK-CRACK-CRACK...BOOOM!!! We turn around and this is what we see...

The "Megabus" that I just got off of ran into a cab with a passenger in it. The bus driver was outside the bus and tried to stop it with his 2 hands. That didn't work so well. He forgot to activate the emergency brakes. WELCOME to Philly!!!

We didn't have too much luck finding food in downtown Philly so we went to The Franklin Institute to get to work. The event was a private screening for CNN's "Latino In America". I have to help the crew prepare for this event. These are some of the things we had to set up...

Starks Is The Spark

It's hard to believe that it's been over 15 years since the world first heard from a group out of Staten Island, NY called The Wu-Tang Clan. A lot has changed since then. Millions of albums were sold, plenty of tours, movies and event the death of O.D.B.

This year had been a good year for some of the originals. Raekwon returned with the long-awaited "Only Built For Cuban Links 2". The album was worth the wait as real hip-hop heads went crazy as if someone threw a garbage bag of candy in the middle of a crowd of 1st graders. But not even a month later, another Wu Tang member released his solo album to not as much hype at all.

The member is Ghostface Killah. Oddly enough, this is his 8th album released...8th!!! The only active Hip-Hop Artist with more solo albums is Jay-Z (11). His newest album is called "Ghostdini: Wizard Of Poetry".

Ghostdini is basically a hood tale of life in love and the trials and tribulations of being in love. It may sound sappy, but it's Ghostface Killah. With that being said, some of it is funny as hell and very entertaining. The majority of the album has some serious melodic r&b tracks. It also features such stars as Ne-Yo, Raheem Devaughn, Estelle, Lloyd, John Legend, Ron Browz and more.

Although Ghostdini has an R&B feel to the majority of the album, there are 2 tracks in particular that is more on the hip-hop side of things. "Stapleton Sex" is a track the has the feel of Lil Kim and Akinyele rolled into one. It is extremely vulgar but shockingly hilarious. If you by your CD's at Wal-mart, don't expect to see the track on the CD. You need to go somewhere that sells "Dirty" versions. The other track is a gem that was produced by J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and features Fabolous. It's called "Guest House". This is a well described stop of Ghostface (A.K.A. Tony Starks) catching his girl cheating the guest house with the "cable guy". Let's put it like this...Christopher Wallace is looking down and smiling about this track.

Although Ghostface has a mature nature on this album, it's still the same Ghostface Killah that we all know and respect. The same energy, passion and humor comes out on reach record that was on tracks like "All That I Got Is You" and "Never Be The Same Again". If you haven't heard it yet, might want to check it out.

DJ Commish on New York TV in the AM...

Yesterday morning, I woke up at 5:15am. Why do I have to wake up at that hour when I'm usually just getting home from a club at that time??? Simple. "The Commander-In-Chief" was called to duty. I got a phone call at 6:30am stating that my driver will arrive at 6:50am. I had to bring my turntables and mixer from home which is something that I rarely do these days.

So, I get to the car and the driver packs my DJ equipment and we take off. Exactly where am I going at this hour to spin some records??? I'm heading to the Fox 5 New York TV studios. It's time for "The Commander-In-Chief's"first appearance on Good Day NY.

Good Day NY is a daily local TV show that is very similar to Good Morning America but the news is geared towards the New York City area. The showed is anchored by Rosanna Scotto & Greg Kelly. During the last hour of the show (9-10am), the show features a DJ. Yesterday, I had the honor of be ing the special guest DJ. It's very interest that "The Commander-In-Chief" was the guest DJ b/c the news of the day was that President Barak Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Hmmmmm...

During the last hour, I played a mixture of music from Disco to house to pop and hip-hop. Greg's favorite record that I played was "Fly Robin Fly". He began to tell this bizarre story on the air of how his mother left him in a car when he was a kid and hear this song on the radio...Of course, his mother was watching and called in on the next segment. No one saw this but the staff had a field day with this...of course I get blamed for playing the record but hey, it was good for TV.

After the show, Rosanna Scotto comes to me to introduce herself personally and thanked me for playing good music. She, as well as the Good Day NY staff was very good to me. I hope to see them again soon. Thanks to Fox 5, DJ Ty Adams and I Am PR Agency for making it happen!

This week was one of those weeks. Although I didn't DJ at all this week (which is crazy enough). I think I worked harder than I ever did in on week. Wednesday was one the busiest days of my life...After spending all day in the city going to meeting after meeting (all very productive), I had to head out to three parties.

After going to Star Lounge, I stopped at Taj for a B-day party for one of my peeps, DJ MOS. This party was crazy. So many people came thru. Shout out to all of the DJ's that came and all the people that I saw that night. D-Nice, DJ Logic & Suss One played and my good friend, Frank Jugga was on the mic. Happy birthday DJ MOS!!!

A Week in the Life...

I'm currently watching the football game and typing. The Jets and Giants won earlier so I'm good for the day...lol. I'm just thinking back on the week. It was quite an interesting one.

Wednesday was meeting in the city and Thursday was the Apple Suite at Katra Lounge. Shout out to Amanda and the whole EMI family that came for the NJ office to hang out with me after-work...After a meeting at Sin Sin, take a friend to M2...what a wild night there!!! Saw a lot of old friends and clients. Good times...

Friday, it was off to the Sinbad show at the Nokia Theater in NYC. I had a blast!!! He is still funny as hell and is not a bad musician. He rocked out with band that looked like something from the United Nations to play funk...It was hot!!!

Saturday, it was time to rock on the wheels again for the Finale party of the 2009 Urbanworld Film Festival. Thanks to everyone who came out. I was told to give a shout out to actor Michael Wright (The Five Heartbeats, The Principal, Sugar Hill, Oz). So I did and he came to the booth to introduce himself, shake my hand and take a pic with me...

He played some ill roles in some of my favorite movies and television shows so shout out to him...
